У статті розроблено аналітичну рамку для пояснення (не)повернення українських воєнних міґрантів у контексті їхніх життєвих планів після 2022 року. Метою є систематизація та узгодження підходів різних рівнів аналізу, що дає змогу інтерпретувати рішення про повернення чи неповернення як соціально уґрунтований, динамічний процес. На макрорівні розглянуто неокласичні економічні моделі, теорію подвійного ринку праці та підходи світових систем, які пояснюють роль структурних дисбалансів, попиту на працю, правових режимів і ґлобальної нерівності у формуванні простору можливостей для міґраційних траєкторій. Особливу увагу приділено інституційному виміру, що впливає на стратегії українців щодо леґалізації, інтеґрації або потенційного повернення. На мезорівні проаналізовано теорію соціального капіталу, мереж міґрації та кумулятивної причинності: мережі знижують витрати та ризики виїзду, сприяють доступу до житла та праці у країнах перебування, водночас формують «капітал повернення» через підтримання зв’язків з Україною; баланс цих зв’язків визначає або посилення намірів залишатися, або утворення умов для реінтеґрації. На мікрорівні узагальнено раціонально-вибіркові та поведінкові підходи, зокрема модель обмеженої раціональності, теорію «push–pull» чинників, життєвого шляху та нової економіки трудової міґрації. Показано, що початкові рішення за умов примусу й дефіциту інформації частково узгоджуються з обмеженою раціональністю, тоді як подальші рішення про (не)повернення дедалі більше спираються на порівняльні оцінки економічних, правових та інших перспектив, безпеки та сімейних обставин. Критично розглянуто концепцію «прагнень і можливостей»: підкреслено методологічні неоднозначності у вимірюванні прагнень, розрив між задекларованими намірами й поведінкою, а також мінливість того, що вважати «можливістю» повернення. Запропоновано інтеґрований підхід, що полягає у поєднанні раціонально-вибіркової логіки (з урахуванням обмеженої раціональності), інституційної теорії й теорії соціального капіталу з використанням моделі «прагнень і можливостей». Розроблена рамка створює узгоджений теоретичний інструментарій для подальших досліджень, який дає підстави трактувати (не)повернення як соціально сконструйовану, багаторівневу й мінливу в часі стратегію, що формується на перетині інституційних режимів, мережевих конфіґурацій та індивідуальних прагнень.
